Honolulu je důležité město mezinárodního významu s půvaby ostrovního ráje. Ke každodennímu životu mnoha studentů školy EF patří surfování na pověstných příbojových vlnách Tichého oceánu, výstupy na vrcholy doutnajících vulkánů nebo důkladné seznamování se s autentickou asijskou kuchyní. Kromě toho jsou obyvatelé Havaje proslulí svou přátelskou povahou a ochotou podělit se o svou ostrovní kulturu s kýmkoli, kdo se chce dozvědět víc.

Historické památky a kultura

Jen pár kroků od učeben EF narazíte na pláž Waikiki, která je ozdobou všech pohlednic. Můžete si vyrazit na výšlap podél okraje lemujícího kráter Diamond Head, z nějž jsou nádherné výhledy na celý ostrov. Vydejte se do nitra džungle po stezce Manoa Falls Trail, u níž uvidíte úchvatný 30metrový vodopád či majestátná bambusová stébla. V paláci ‘Iolani, který byl kdysi sídlem havajské královské rodiny, si můžete prohlédnout expozici věnovanou někdejší monarchii.

Nakupování

Proč nestrávit odpoledne v jednom z největších nákupních středisek pod širým nebem v Americe, Ala Moana? Na promenádě u pláže Waikiki si můžete prohlédnout trendové butiky i speciální nabídku místních řemeslníků. A až bude na slunci příliš horko, můžete se osvěžit v klimatizovaném interiéru Královského havajského nákupního centra.

Sportování a pobyt v přírodě

Přihlaste se do kurzu surfování ve vlnách na pláži Waikiki. Se šnorchlem či kyslíkovým přístrojem se vydejte pod hladinu mezi útesy v zátoce Honauma. Zaplavte si mezi rozvernými delfíny v zábavním parku Sea Life Park nebo se vydejte na číhanou beze zbraně za divokými zvířaty hluboko do havajského deštného pralesa. Mocným zážitkem je také každoroční soutěž nejlepších světových surfařů na Severním pobřeží. Toto klání se nejlépe pozoruje z pohodlí plážového lehátka.

Výlety a vyjížďky

Honolulu se nachází na ostrově Oahu, jednom z osmi hlavních havajských ostrovů. Škola EF pořádá vyjížďky na okolní ostrovy Maui, Kauai, Lanai, Molokai a na Velký ostrov, kde lze spatřit dýmající, doposud aktivní sopky, údolí porostlá džunglí a čisté pláže daleko od frekventovaných cest.

Zábava a noční život

Žádná návštěva Havaje by nebyla úplná bez alespoň jednoho večera stráveného při tradiční slavnosti nazývané luau. Ochutnejte sele, rožněné metodou kalua a přitom si vychutnejte pohled na klátivé kroky tradičního tance hula. Honolulu je jakýmsi epicentrem nočního života na Havaji. V centru Honolulu a v čínské čtvrti lze najít fantastická místa pro hudbu dýdžejů a místních kapel. Místem s největší koncentací tanečních klubů je třída Kuhio Avenue ve čtvrti Waikiki.
