Pokud jste někdy snili o životě v Kalifornii, jste zde rozhodně na správné adrese. Historie surfování v Santa Barbaře sahá do doby téměř před sto lety. Na surfařském prkně zde uvidíte často i malé děti. Svahy kopců jsou posety domy nejrůznějších celebrit. Početná komunita studentů tomuto městu dodává mladistvou energii.

Historické památky a kultura

Největší atrakcí Santa Barbary zůstávají nádherné pláže. Odpočiňte si pod slunečníkem na pláži East Beach, jejíž bělostný písek a palmovníky jsou lemovány okolními kopci. Při procházce po nábřeží Stearns Wharf uvidíte desítky malých obchodů a můžete se kochat jedním z nejkrásnějších panoramat v Kalifornii. Lze zde obdivovat také španělský architektonický styl slavné Old Mission Building nebo se užasle pozastavit nad dvěma tisícovkami rostlinných a živočišných druhů v národním parku Channel Island National Park.

Škola EF se nachází pouhý blok od dlážděné ulice State Street, kde v úseku delším než jedna míle najdete vše od butiků s nejnovějšími módními hity až po obchody populárních značkových řetězců. Projděte si luxusní obchody v městské části Paseo Nuevo. A na farmářském trhu můžete ochutnat místní produkty.

Sportování a pobyt v přírodě

Zdejší klima je známé svým slunečným počasím po celý rok, a tak není divu, že místní obyvatelé tráví většinu času venku. Přihlaste se do kurzu surfování. Na klidných vlnách Rinconu lze rychle dosáhnout prvních pokroků. Také potápění nebo jízda na kajaku podél ostrovů Channel Islands nemá chybu. Milovníci přírody se nechají okouzlit krásami severoamerické divočiny na výletě do Yosemitského národního parku.

Zábava a noční život

Velkou roli v nočním životě města hrají tisíce studentů. Potkáte je zejména na živé třídě State Street. Doporučujeme ochutnat čerstvý nápoj guacamole, vyráběný z místních avokád v autentických mexických restauracích. Silným zážitkem může být také koncert ve venkovním amfiteátru Santa Barbara Bowl, který nabízí pohledy na úchvatný kaňon i na Tichý oceán.
